Gaga for Gaga: artRAVE

OK, I need to be honest. I don’t own a Lady Gaga album. I have never been interested in buying a Lady Gaga album and I haven’t actually been sure if I ever like her very much. And then I went to her concert.

Gaga is a great singer, there’s no denying that. I was blown away, singing along, surprised to realise that I actually knew the words to a lot of her songs. I would have liked to have heard more from her back catalogue, although I may not have actually known any of songs. ‘Pokerface’, ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Telephone’ were delivered as a mash-up rather than as stand-alone songs which was a little disappointing.

A few of the costumes were a little over the top; Ursula meets 101 Dalmatians for example and I really don’t understand why the dancers had huge balloons at the beginning.

That aside, she’s really nailed this performance thing. ‘Bad Romance’ and ‘Alejandro’ rocked the entire place and her last costume change, leaving her dressed as a baby raver just made me smile.

I walked in cynical and unsure, and I left overexcited and happy. As a Gaga virgin I was definitely impressed and truthfully, now I kind of get the hype. I won’t go as far as calling myself a Little Monster but hands down she was really good. ARTPOP is here people; embrace the rave!
