The annual WA Fashion Awards are one the highlights of the Perth fashion scene. On Tuesday evening, the State’s best dressed and most well connected descended on the State Theatre Centre and the guests were as decadent as the building surrounding them.
Hosted by Tim McMillan and Tracy Vo from Nine News, the 2016 awards marked their 20th anniversary and demonstrated the outstanding level of commitment, talent and support that is present within the industry.
This was further confirmed by the reintroduction of the King Street Walk of Fame Award, an accolade which has not been granted since Melanie Greensmith of Wheels and Dollbaby in 2008.
Christine Fox of Vivien’s WA, received the award for her outstanding contribution to the industry. The award presentation was accompanied by a heartfelt video featuring messages from many of her colleagues, friends and models, both past and present from around the world. The messages reconfirmed the positive, supportive and developmental family that the WA fashion industry is.
Christine’s piece of pavement will join the likes of Ruth Tarvydas and Liz Davenport on King Street in the CBD.
Segmenting the awards were two fashion showcases, the stage filling with models wearing fashions from the 20 years.
Periscope took out the inaugural People’s Choice Award, noting the community support for local businesses and highlighting Northbridge as a diverse shopping destination.
The Fremantle couple behind Morrisons, Kylie Radford and Richard Poulson, accepted the award for WA Designer of the Year, thanking their staff and noting the talent that filled the room.
