Brisbane: Arriva

When you eat somewhere three times in a seven-day period, you know you’re on to something good. That place is Arriva.

I was first drawn to Arriva when looking for a birthday dinner venue that was BYO. I love Italian food and was craving it, but every member of the small (but fabulous) party of four was feeling the penny pinch so we decided to try and find somewhere BYO.

My gawd. I was so impressed. From the service to the atmosphere to the food, it was exactly what I wanted. I had a pizza, J had a gorgonzola gnocchi, and L and C shared a meat ravioli, plus we had a garlic bread and salad for the table. There are barely words to describe the happy place I got to. The pizza was the stand out for me, followed closely by the gnocchi (although I’m not much of a fan of blue cheese so it may have been a little lacking in that space for stanky cheese lovers). J, the ultimate eater then went in for dessert and he was very impressed with his apple crumble. My second visit was the following Friday with a girlfriend who was over from Sydney. We shared a pizza and a salad and, again, everything was perfect. We walked in at about 6.30 and took the last free table so I would always recommend booking.

The following night (yes, I am creature of habit and a huge, huge pizza fan), I went back with my friend from Sydney and another girlfriend when we were unable to get into a nearby restaurant. I tried to order something other than pizza and failed but we all loved everything we had. S had pasta and A had bruschetta and we had an Italian salad to share. We were all feeling tired and a good meal in a buzzing restaurant was exactly what we needed to give us the energy to head out for the evening.

Arriva is the perfect neighbourhood restaurant. Well trained staff, a family feel, a variety of groups, couples and families dining and reasonable pricing. It’s definitely one to visit.
